Our New Zealand–made residential portable buildings give you flexible, comfortable extra rooms that can move with you if your situation changes.
Popular options include:
• Self-contained portable homes with kitchen, bathroom and living space
• Sleepouts and extra bedrooms for teens, guests or extended family• Home offices, studios or hobby rooms away from the main house
Portable Buildings for Worksites, Offices and Schools
Design A Com supplies robust, low-maintenance portable buildings for New Zealand businesses, contractors and schools.
Common commercial and education uses include:
• Site offices, meeting rooms and secure storage for contractors• Staff lunchrooms, toilets and changing facilities• Transportable classrooms and breakout rooms for schools• Temporary reception areas or sales offices on development sites
Units are designed for heavy use, with durable wall linings, commercial-grade flooring and options for data, power, heating and exterior branding.
Portable Building Rental and Lease Options
If you only need a building for a fixed period, renting or leasing can be a smart option.
Typical situations where rental or lease works well:
• Residental sleepouts, offices and 1 - 2 bedroom homes• Short-term site offices and lunchrooms for construction projects• Temporary extra classrooms while schools are upgraded• Seasonal accommodation or staff facilities
We can discuss the units we have available for hire, minimum terms, transport costs and what makes most sense for your budget compared to buying outright.
Custom Design to Suit Your Site and Requirements
Every site and project is different. Design A Com can tailor your portable building to suit your layout, council requirements and how you plan to use the space.
Custom options include:
• Sizes and layouts – single rooms, multi-room layouts, bathrooms and kitchens• Exterior finishes – different cladding profiles, colours and roofing styles• Windows and doors – placement, sizes, sliding or French doors, standard double glazing or thermally broken double glazing• Interior finishes – wall and ceiling linings, flooring, cabinetry and storage, feature walls• Accessibility – wider doorways and accessible bathrooms on request
We work with you from concept to final plan, so you know exactly what will be delivered to your site.
Delivery, Siting and Installation Support Across New Zealand
Portable buildings still need good planning on site. We help you think through delivery, on-site preparations and installation so everything goes smoothly on the day.
We can discuss:
• Access for trucks and, if needed, cranes to place the building• Foundations, piles or pads to support the unit• Positioning for sun, wind, privacy and future access• Connections for power, water and wastewater where required
Design A Com can coordinate with your other contractors where needed, so your new building arrives, is placed correctly and is ready to be connected.
Portable Building FAQs
Do I need council consent for a portable building?
• This depends on the size of the building, how it is used and how it is fixed to the site. We recommend discussing your plans with your local council. We can work with you and your advisors to provide the information they need.
How long does it take from order to delivery?
• Timeframes vary with demand and the level of custom design, but many projects run from several weeks to a few months. We will discuss current timeframes with you before you commit.
How warm are your portable buildings?
